Slightly dodgy image quality, but a nice photo anyway. Nice Tapas. Out to celebrate Mandy and Antonia's birthday (second and third from left).

Matt and Anna's Wedding

15/06/2009, originally uploaded by symivisitor.

Our son Matthew and his partner were married in Scarborough in the beautiful setting of the Spa last Saturday. The sun shone and it was a beautiful day all round.

Live Greek Webcams

Been busy marking the annual load of German speaking tests which helps to pay for our summer Greek odyssey, so not much time to update this page at least. Plenty going on in the SymiVisitor world lately however, not least the launch today of our new live Greek webcam portal.

Here's a picture of our grandson Joe, in the rather lovely Peasholm Park in Scarborough last weekend.

Sandcastles

Off to Scarborough today to see the family and grand-children. Took Joe and Callum down to North Bay for a breath of fresh air this afternoon; it is really nice down there after a face-lift. Plenty of new apartments, beach huts, coffee bars etc and a complete contrast to the very touristy South Bay. Nice park across the road with the healthiest ducks and pigeons I've ever seen. I ruined a pair of shoes wading into the sea to fill Joe's sandcastle moat.

Kastellorizo

Kastellorizo, originally uploaded by DimitriSotiropoulos.

Here's a photo of Kastellorizo-those of you who know Symi will see the similarities.

Kastellorizo dreaming..

Been in the Lakes for a few days; got some rain the first day but then brightened up and was gorgeous over the weekend. Full of people of course; noticed a lot more French, Italian and German visitors then usual, must be the pound's fall against the Euro I suppose. Also bumped into loads of Aussies-don't know what that was all about! This is the view from the top of Alcock Tarn on Good Friday:

Just booked some accommodation in Kastellorizo for the summer, just a few days but really looking forward to it already. I've posted a photo above.

Birthdays and things..

Went down to the Peak District a fortnight ago for Anne Zouroudi's 50th birthday party. It was a great night and we saw lots of friends and familiar faces from Symi, although you had to do a double take at times to recognise people out of context; dancing away in a small village hall near Bakewell as opposed to sitting in the Rainbow in Chorio! We took the opportunity to do a bit of walking as well the day after - never really explored the Peak District, but it was beautiful.

On holiday for two weeks at the moment; did consider going over to Symi but as eastern and western Easter don't coincide this year we decided to wait until later in the year. Off to the Lakes walking again for a few days on Thursday; wanted to tackle one of the higher mountains, but as the forecast is for strong winds and snow higher up, we may have to give it a miss!

Hope all OK with you.

Coniston

Went up to the Lakes on the spur of the moment yesterday (again); just needed to get away really and the weather was so glorious. Booked a B&B in Coniston on Friday night and drove up Saturday morning. Walked all day in shorts and t-shirt weather. Today was a bit different, as you can see from the video-Lever's Water reservoir above the old copper mines above Coniston. The wind actually blew me over a couple of times. Then back for Liverpool 5-Villa 0. Game on.

Two weeks until I finish for Easter; probably come back up to the Lakes for a few days.

Google Street View

I was going to post some more Istanbul videos, but after all the furore today regarding the new Google street view service, thought I'd post this instead:

View Larger MapThe first house my wife Jo and myself lived in. 39 Pulford Street, Anfield. Go to the end of the street and turn left to see how near Liverpool football club's ground we lived. Very handy.

Still here..

Haven't posted any news on here since Christmas.-not that I haven't been doing anything, just haven't had the time really. Well I have, of course; just never got round to it. So: what's new?

Well, I've done a lot of work on our new photo blog.  As it stands, Nik or someone in Symi posts new photos to Flickr, from where they can blog them, a lot faster than the old method of emailing them to me and my having to resize them and post them on a standard web page. I was thinking in the sauna yesterday (I do a lot of thinking in the sauna) that it would be a great idea to get people with photos of Symi already on Flickr or who could post them there to blog them as well. I'd have to give them access to the password, but I don't think that would be a problem.

Off to Greece for six weeks in the summer; flying to Athens and the return flight from Rhodes to Athens is booked as well. There's nothing planned in between so we can do and go where we like. Probably going to island-hop our way down after some time on the mainland. Andros and Tinos are possibilities. Only thing definitely booked is a four day flight from Rhodes to Kastellorizo in August, so looking for some accommodation there as we speak. Obviously we'll spend plenty of time at our house in Symi as well. Of course I have the traditional exam marking for AQA to do in May to help pay for it all, but I'll have forgotten about that by the time we set off for Greece in August.

Talking of travelling, we went to Budapest at half term-flights were ludicrously cheap and the hotel was 30 euros a night! Very nice too. Here's some footage.

Getting our bearings!

Inside the Blue Mosque

Will put some more up tomorrow.
